Chemical Peel
A Facial Chemical Acid Peel can bring about a significant improvement in the appearance of the skin rejuvenation. In this procedure a low concentration of the peeling agent TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) is mixed with a special base prior to its application. Application of the peeling solution on the skin initiates the peeling process. As a result, the topmost (dead layer of the skin) slowly peels off. In a few weeks healthier looking skin replaces the old skin.

Most patients experience a response to a chemical face peel within one to two treatments. However, follow-up treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results. A Chemical Acid Peel has the reputation as being one of the safest procedures available for skin rejuvenation. However, medical treatment is not an exact science and the degree of the improvement is variable. Occasionally there is not improvement and another form of treatment may be required. Long-term complications resulting from Chemical Peels are rare. Infections due to bacterial contamination may occur if post-peel instructions are not followed closely. There can be mild pigmentation problems that may occur and can usually be corrected using bleaching systems.
After a Facial Chemical Acid Peel some patients return to work the same day, although some patients require a longer recovery time of several days. During the procedure you may experience some discomfort, similar to a transient stinging sensation. A numbing cream and application of local anesthetics may be advised by your physician to the treatment to reduce any discomfort.
It is important to avoid direct exposure to sunlight for 4 weeks prior to a treatment. It is highly recommended that one uses a SPF 30 or greater sunscreen. If you have been instructed by the treating physician to use a topical cream 4–6 weeks prior to each treatment, it is important to follow all directions. There are times when oral antibiotics and antiviral medication is prescribed by the physician. Please take all medication as prescribed, and follow all guidelines established by the physician. After treatment, avoid direct exposure to sunlight for the first 6 weeks, and use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater. Swimming and contact sports should be avoided until your skin has healed completely. Make up may be worn only after the treatment area has healed completely.
